How do you receive replies with a fake email address? *****completely harmless*****?
Hi, first of all. This is is no way intended for malicious use, I am merely using it to test a viral type marketing idea with some friends.
If I change the display name and email address under tools in my email program, how do I receive replies back from them? Is there any way to relay their replies back to me? Thanks for your help!

You don't. It is akin to sending a letter to someone through the post and putting a fake name and address at the top.
If you lie about how people can contact you, then don't expect people to be able to contact you.
I don't think you can with a fake email address if you actually set up the account though you can use an alternative email address and have all emails forwarded to that.
The way scam emails do it is to have a fake link in the email - it says it's a link to PayPal but it's to their site that they made to look like PayPal's site. (I got one of those this afternoon - but to a French "PayPal" site.)
Or they send the email from a fake address with fake headers (that's easy) but a real ReplyTo: header. If you don't watch what's happening you're replying to an address that's totally different from the one shoinfg in your From: box.
